Elizabeth Helen Buchman

Elizabeth Helen (Wismer) Buchman, 104, of Morgantown, W.Va., passed away Thursday evening, January 31, 2013, at the Point Manor Personal Care Home, Point Marion,Pa. Born in Easton, Pennsylvania, on February 26, 1908, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Fairer) Wismer. Elizabeth, an honor graduate of high school, worked at Ingersoll Rand Corporation as a secretary until she married Kenneth Edward Buchman. She and Kenneth raised peaches, apples, pears and grapes in their orchard to sell at their fruit stand in the front yard. She canned much of their food and also sold eggs during the Depression. She was a wonderful cook who prided herself in fixing healthy meals which worked well as Kenneth lived to be age 90, and she lived into her hundreds! Avid reading also kept her mind sharp. Surviving is her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Carolyn Buchman; one granddaughter, Whitney Paige Nine and husband Philip; and two great-grandchildren, Samuel Edwin and Violet Grace Nine. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews who spent time with her at the orchard when they were children, or swimming in the in-ground pool that was built by Kenneth. Deceased is her husband of 63 years, Kenneth Buchman, and two brothers and their wives, Richard and Arlene Wismer and Donald and Agnes Wismer. The family would like to thank all of Elizabeth’s friends and family who sent cards for her birthday celebrations or visited her during her stay at Point Manor. They would also like to say a special thank you to all of the caregivers at Point Manor Personal Care Home with whom Elizabeth made her home for the past eight years. They were kind, considerate and patient. Larry and Carolyn would also like to thank the Stillwagon family who went out of their way to make their home a special place in which to live. Maxine Beatty, a caregiver, and all the neighbors on Callen Avenue also held a special place in Elizabeth’s heart. She is now at rest with Kenneth in Heaven where she always believed she would be, due to her Christian way of life. She lived an admirable life that included church, hard work, and love of her family. She never had an unkind word to say about anyone. We aspire to be more like her every day. The interment services, which were held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 12:30 PM in the Lawnwood Cemetery, Morgantown, were attended by immediate family only, with Rev. Scott Teets officiating. Arrangements are in the care of the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion.
