Ronald J. Sheranko

February 28, 1943 - September 30, 2017

Ronald (Ron) Joseph Sheranko died peacefully at home on September 30, 2017 in Winder GA at the age of 74. He was formerly a resident of Dilliner, Pa. for many years. Ron is survived by his wife of 40 years, Saundra (Hartley) Sheranko, 6 daughters and son in laws; Mickye and Brian Stevenson of Leesburg VA; Shea and Dustin Sahlmann of Alexander AR; Rondi and Scott Squires of Little Rock AR; Jayme and Tracy Kirby of Bryant AR; Hillary and Justen Ashcraft of Hoschton GA; Lyndsay and Adam Maikranz of Dubai UAE; brother Robert Sheranko of Berwick PA, sisters Carol Spearen, Bobtown PA and Deb Anderson, Knoxville TN. He was blessed with 12 grandchildren; Megan and Joshua Stevenson, Britney and Arron Sahlmann, Kaleb and Kaci Squires, Codi and Lance Kirby, Leighton and Camden Ashcraft, Everett and Eva Maikranz. He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Elizabeth (Christoff) Sheranko, of Bobtown PA. Ron was born on February 28, 1943 in Bobtown PA. He graduated from Henderson State University, Arkadelphia AR in 1969 with a degree in Business Administration. He retired from Emerald Mines, Waynesburg PA in 2005. He was an active member of Mt Pleasant UMC, Dilliner PA and New Liberty UMC, Braselton GA. Ron will be remembered as a kind and gentle husband and father, who encouraged his daughters and grandchildren to pursue their educational goals, cheered mightily from the sidelines of various sports fields, and entertained others with his 'Donald Duck' imitations, 'Big Bear' stories, and harmonica playing by campside fires. He was also a doting and loving Grandfather, spoiling his grandchildren at every opportunity, including endless hours watching 'Sean the Sheep' and sneaking midnight bowls of cereal. He had a talent for meeting people and striking up conversations with strangers across the globe. He loved polka dancing and doing "the twist", singing along to music on long car rides, and participating in the Mt. Pleasant UMC canata choir. He was a loyal and dedicated friend to so many people. A celebration of life is scheduled for 1:00, Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Mt. Pleasant UMC, Dilliner PA. Pastor Bev Roscoe will officiate the ceremony with interment to follow at Wolf Cemetery, Dilliner PA. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ron's life. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to Mt. Pleasant UMC, c/o Nick Shuppe, 480 Budapest Rd, Dilliner, PA 15327. The family would like to thank the nurses from Halcyon Hospice, Athens GA for their care and compassion. Arrangements are in the care of the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion.
