Patricia (Cullen) Shaffer

March 3, 1930 - September 11, 2016

Patricia (Cullen) Shaffer, 86, a lifelong resident of Point Marion, Pa., passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016, at her home. Born in Point Marion on March 3, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Barney Cullen and Pearl (Grow) Cullen Prevost. A 1948 graduate of Point Marion High School, she was a member of the Point Marion United Methodist Church. Patty was involved in local political activities, having served a number of terms as the local Democratic Committeewoman, in addition to several terms on Point Marion Borough Council. She, along with her late husband, was very involved with Rotary International, and enjoyed participating in many activities at both the local club level as well as with District 733. Patty was a current member of the Point Marion Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, a major donor and member of both the Diamond Circle Club and the Paul Harris Society of Rotary Foundation, as well as a Rotary Benefactor. Surviving is a son, Joseph “Barney” Shaffer of Grindstone, Pa.; three grandchildren, William Shaffer, Patricia Sumey and husband Chad, and Elizabeth Shaffer; and one great-grandson, Douglas A. Sumey. Her husband, Theodore C. Shaffer passed away on June 15, 2008. Also deceased is her grandson, Theodore John “T.J.” Shaffer; two sisters, Mary Jo LeFevre and Betty Vandermess; two brothers, Jack Cullen and William “Willy” Cullen; a half-brother, Merle Rosier; and a son, Theodore B. Shaffer in infancy. Friends will be received in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, on Wednesday from 2 - 4 and 6 – 8 PM, and Thursday from 10 until the 11:00 AM hour of service, with Pastor Kathy Griffith officiating. Interment follows in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion.
