Mary Ann (Shaffer) Nicholson, 73, of Masontown, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at the Pine Ridge Nursing Home in Kingwood, following a brief illness. Born June 3, 1944 in Morgantown, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Shaffer and Annie Lee (Sprouse) Messenger Shaffer. She was a nurse’s aide at WVU Hospital, Mon General Hospital and also with the in-home care of the Senior Monongalians, and was a member of the Sturgis United Methodist Church in Masontown. Surviving are sons, Timothy Field and wife Peggy of Masontown and Fred Rohr and wife Cindy of Bruceton Mills; three grandchildren, Timothy Field, Jr. and wife Mindy, Michelle Barto and Hunter Field; two great-grandchildren, Autumn Brook Field and Logan Reed Field; a brother, Otis “Buck” Shaffer and his wife Betty of Masontown, Pa.; and a daughter-in-law, Brandi Pugh of Point Marion. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister who cared deeply for her family, as well as the patients she looked after, and will be dearly missed by all those who loved her. Deceased is a son, Kenneth Rohr in 2017; and four sisters, Pauline Rohr on March 11, 2018, Elsie Griffin, Betty Jean Rogers and Alma Carol Shaffer. Friends will be received in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, on Sunday from 2 – 4 and 6 - 8 PM, and Monday from 10 until 11:00 AM, the hour of service, with Rev. Jim Weber and Rev. Janice Smith officiating. Interment follows at 1:30 PM in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Masontown, WV. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to the family at 501 Morgantown St., Point Marion, PA 15474.
