Dorothy May (Smithley) Cartwright, 83, of New Geneva, Pa., passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016 at her home with her loving family at her side. Born in Point Marion on April 19, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Sadie (Wolverton) Smithley. A member of the Carmichaels Congregation of Jehovah’s Witness, Dorothy had formerly worked for the Albert Gallatin School District as a Custodian, and also in the Food Service Department of Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. She enjoyed quilting and knitting, and giving away her handcrafted items to her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Cartwright; two daughters, Linda Martin of New Geneva, and Elizabeth Johnson of Smithfield; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Smithley of Alabama; and three sisters, Emma Sines, Faye Deans and JoAnn Smithley, all of Point Marion. Deceased is her son, George Anthony, Jr. Friends will be received in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, on Monday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 PM, and Tuesday from 10 until 11:00 AM, the hour of service, with Scott Shea officiating. Interment follows in Mount Moriah Presbyterian Cemetery, Fallen Timbers Road, Point Marion.
