Irene G. Casteel

Irene Grace Casteel, 86, a life-long resident of McKinley Hill, Point Marion, Pa., died Tuesday, August 3, 2010, in the Uniontown Hospital. Born July 1, 1924 in Nilan, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Henry Clay and Harriet Love Barnes. A Christian by faith and a loving homemaker, she had worked for a while at the former Houze Glass in Point Marion. Her husband of 21 years, Harry Parshall Casteel, to whom she was married on Jan. 24, 1942, passed away on Oct. 28, 1963. Also deceased is a sister, Sara Barnes; three brothers, Edward, George and Rufus Barnes; and two grandchildren, Larry Richard Rogerson in infancy, and Ronda Staley on Aug. 2, 2010. Surviving are her loving children and their spouses, Sandra Joy DeSicy of Point Marion, Teena Sue and Larry Rogerson of Dilliner, Sarah Jo and Richard “Dick” King of Orrville, Ohio, and Harry “Pip” and June Casteel of Lake Lynn; and one sister, Rose Swift of Masontown, Pa. Irene has just recently become a fifth generation great-great-grandmother, and is survived by 10 grandchildren and their families; Gigi and Gary Snyder and children Deborah and John of Shoreview, Minn.; Jason and Jerod DeSicy, both of Dallas, Texas; Kandra and Tom Sankovich and sons Travis and Tyler of Uniontown; Joy and Jerry Newman and son Justin of Carmichaels, Pa.; Chuck and Karen King and children Tyler, Jason and Carly of Medina, Ohio; Christine and Delbert Pumphrey and children Brittney, Chaz, and Dustin of Orrville; Michelle King and sons Anthony, and David and Amber with daughter Makena, of Pulaski, Virginia; Erin and Eric Strimel and children Emma, Evan, and Elly Rae, of Point Marion; Philip Casteel of Masontown, Pa., and Ronda’s children, Ryan and Shana Staley of Carmichaels. Friends will be received in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, on Saturday from 4 - 9 p.m., and Sunday until 2:00 P.M., the hour of service, with Minister Joe Condoluci officiating. Interment follows in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered to Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure, PO Box 650309 Dallas, TX 75265-0309.
