Ina Belle Cottrell

Ina B. Cottrell, 92, of Lake Lynn, Pa, departed this life for her new life on Thursday, June 10, 2010. Born in Clay County, W.Va. on Oct 15, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Edward Cecil and Flora Ann (May) Parsons. Ina grew up in rural West Virginia, the daughter of a coal miner who loved his family. Ina often spoke of her father and how dear he was. Her mother cared for the home, and was doctor to the community, delivering babies and healing with herbal remedies. Ina was 14 when her parents passed away within months of each other. She was left in charge of the home and an eleven year old sister. Three brothers worked in the coal mines and helped maintain the home. Ina met Lewis at age fifteen, and they married in 1933 when she was sixteen. Their first child, Robert Lee, died at birth. Three years later, a daughter, Delma Jean, was born. Three more children, sons, were born, Harold, Deward, and nineteen years later, David. Ina said the Lord must have a plan for him. He is her preacher son, pastor of Springfield Bible Baptist Church in Springfield, Ohio. Lewis and Ina lived throughout West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Ohio. Lewis was foreman for the Curry Lumber Co. of Uniontown, Pa. for many years. Lewis retired from Curry Lumber Co. and they moved to Vermilion, Ohio, where “Lew” became a master mechanic for Kyle Motors. After retirement from Kyle Motors, Lewis and Ina managed a mobile home court in Vermilion until his death in 1983. Following his death, Ina came to Lake Lynn to live near her daughter and family. Ina never retired for the night before reading her Bible and saying her prayers. Her family and friends were dearly loved, and her prayers for them remain at her Father’s throne. She was the loving mother of Delma Jean (Cottrell) and Stanley Burns of Lake Lynn, Harold Dean and Carolyn (Fisher) Cottrell, and Deward Lee and Carol (Tanner) Cottrell, all of Vermilion, Ohio, and Lewis David, Jr. and Gerri (Schmitz) Cottrell, of Springfield, Ohio; the proud grandmother of Diana (Cottrell) and Robert Prather, Deborah (Cottrell) and Jeffrey Shelly, Jeffrey Dean Cottrell, Gregory Lee and Donna (Rhome) Cottrell, Lee Anne (Burns) and David Morley, Elizabeth (Cottrell) and Jamie Andrews, Andrew Cottrell, Faith (Cottrell) and Andrew Vest, Adam Cottrell and Michael Cottrell; and she was the loving great-grandmother to Rebecca (Prather) Gordon, Chandra (Shelly) Grudt, Kendra Shelly, Alyssa, Tanner and Amber Cottrell, Ian, Isaac, and Jonathan Morley, Samantha and Devon Cottrell and Chloe Vest. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her devoted husband of 49 years, Lewis David Cottrell in 1983; a son Robert in infancy, and all of her brothers and sisters, Curt, Lee, Perry, Edith, Bitha, Litha and Ercil. Friends will be received in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, on Monday from 6 – 8 P.M. Funeral services will begin at 8:00 p.m., with Rev. Scott Teets officiating. Graveside services, conducted by family members, will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Sand Ridge, W.Va.
