Elizabeth "Betty" Sheranko

Elizabeth “Betty” Christoff Sheranko, 94, of Knoxville, Tennessee, formerly of Bobtown, Pa., died Thursday, February 23, 2012 in Knoxville. Born January 28, 1918 in Grays Landing, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Stefan and Maria (Litecky) Kristoff. After attending Masontown High School, she went to work in New York City. On September 5, 1942, she married her husband, Andrew Sheranko, Jr. at St. Mary’s R.C. Church in Leckrone, Pa. She was a member of St. Ignatius R.C. Church in Bobtown for 58 years. Betty belonged to the Rosary Altar Society, Ladies Auxiliary of the Fire Department, the Senior Citizens and the Civic Club, all in Bobtown, and the Carmichaels Senior Citizens. Among her many hobbies, as she called it, were the scrapbooks she made for all of her children. She loved to read and work crossword puzzles. The family remembers her making homemade root beer, and no one could make better kolachi. She was a marvelous cook! Following her husband’s passing on July 23, 1999, she moved to Knoxville, Tenn. in 2000. Also deceased are brothers, Joe, John and Philip Christoff, and a sister Agnes Pritchard. She was the last of her immediate family. Left to honor her memory, are her four children and their spouses, Ron and Saundra Sheranko of Dilliner, Pa., Carol and Joe Spearen of Bobtown, Bob and Rose Sheranko of Berwick, Pa. and Deb and Barry Anderson of Knoxville; ten grandchildren, Michelle (Brian) Stevenson, DeShea (Dustin) Sahlmann, Rondi Squires, Jayme (Tracy) Kirby, Hillary Sheranko (Justin Ashcraft), Lyndsay (Adam) Maikranz, Cynthia Church, Joanie (Steve) Williams, Bart (Deb) Spearen and Dave Sheranko; a step granddaughter, Stacey (Brooks) Hyde; 15 great-grandchildren, Megan and Josh Stevenson, Britney and Aaron Sahlmann, Kaleb and Kasey Squires, Cody and Lance Kirby, Leighton Ashcraft, Breanna and Maria Church, Travis and Eric Williams, Kristen and Jacob Spearen; sister-in-law Dorothy Sheranko Braddee and husband Arlett; and two very special friends, Cathy and Bob Ernest. May she rest in peace. Friends will be received in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion on Tuesday, February 28th, from 3- 8 p.m., and Wednesday until 9:15 a.m., when a prayer service will be held, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ignatius R.C. Church, with Rev. Fr. Lawrence V. Holpp as celebrant. Interment follows in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Leckrone, Pa. Memorial donations may be offered to Mt. Macrina Manor, 520 W. Main Street, Uniontown, PA 15401, for Patient Activities.
