Dorothy L. Gilleland

Dorothy Lou Gilleland passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and unwavering strength. She was born on October 24, 1929, in Hopwood, Pennsylvania. As a teenager, she worked at Clements Grocery Store and later at a local dental laboratory as a courier, where she met the love of her life, Holbert “Bert” Clyde Gilleland. They were married for 48 years. Throughout their life together, Dorothy embraced many roles with dedication and grace. She graduated from beautician school, worked at the Rockwell plant in Uniontown, served as a telephone operator in Washington, D.C., sold Avon, raised five children, and lovingly cared for her six grandchildren and three great‑grandchildren. She was a devoted and caring mother who always put her family first, offering them unwavering support and love in every season of life. As an Air Force wife, she and Bert lived in Florida, England, New Mexico, and Kansas before settling in Point Marion in 1972 following Bert’s retirement. Shortly after, Bert’s great‑aunt came to live with them, and Dorothy provided her with devoted daily care. Dorothy was a longtime and active member of the Point Marion United Methodist Church. She found joy in sewing, crocheting, cooking, wallpapering, painting, gardening, and keeping a beautiful home. Her family and her home were her greatest pride. In her later years, as her health declined, she especially enjoyed playing Scrabble and cards with family and friends. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Holbert “Bert” Clyde Gilleland; her son, Samuel David Davis; her parents, Sarah (Kennedy) Davis and Ferdinand Davis; two sisters; and two brothers. She is survived by her brother, Thomas Davis of Cape Coral, Florida; her children Diana Lynn Gilleland (Randy Renaldo) of Morgantown, West Virginia, Timothy Earl Gilleland (Joy) of Independence, West Virginia, Dawn Lee King (Michael) of Smithfield, Pennsylvania, and Gregg Gilleland (Emily) of Point Marion, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by six grandchildren—Jeremy Gilleland, Jennifer King (Michael), Christopher King (Melanie), Canaan Gilleland, Alexandria Gilleland, and Logan Gilleland—and three great‑grandchildren: Elijah King, Taran Hufnagle, and Isaac King, along with many nieces and nephews. Dorothy’s life was defined by love, service, and an unshakeable devotion to her family. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
