Charles E. Kelley

Charles E. “Chuck” Kelley, 91, a lifelong resident of Point Marion, Pa., went home to be with his Lord on Friday, February 13, 2015. Born in Point Marion on Oct. 3, 1923, he was a son of the late Edgar B. and Gwendolyn (Costello) Kelley. A 1941 graduate of Point Marion High School, he was active in the marching and concert bands and the Che-Mon Yearbook Staff. He played football and basketball and was a member of the 1939 Point Marion High School WPIAL Class B Championship Basketball Team. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, serving in the South Pacific. Chuck worked for the former McClain Sand Company in Point Marion, and retired as River Boat Captain for Mon River Towing of Speers, Pa. He remained a member of the Masters, Mates, and Pilots International Union. A lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Point Marion, he also attended and supported the Point Marion United Methodist Church. He was very active in the town, holding memberships in the V.F.W. Post 747, the F.O.E. #1932, the former I.O.O.F. #1173, and was a Scout Master along with his father for the local troop for many years. Chuck was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid Mountaineer fan cheering on the football and basketball teams. The only time he did not cheer for the Mountaineers was when they were playing Navy! He will be sadly missed by his family and all that knew him. His loving wife, Gene Maxine (Campbell) Kelley passed away on Oct. 5, 2007. Also deceased are two sons, Kent A. Kelley in infancy and Douglas A. Kelley, and a daughter, Nancy Kelley Wilson; Surviving are one son, Charles E. Kelley, Jr. and wife Deborah of Punxsutawney, PA; a daughter, Mary Beth Kelley, of Point Marion; daughter-in-law, Nancy Kelley of Pataskala, OH; nine grandchildren, Nichole Barkowitz and husband Steven of Isle of Palms, SC; Laura Kelley and friend Jeremy Alborn of New Castle, PA; Charles E. Kelley, III and fiancé Kirsten Eberlein of Pittsburgh, PA; Jeff Wilson of Herndon, VA; Chuck Wilson and wife Dana of Providence Village, TX; Jaime Young and husband Bob of Herndon, VA; Erin Ness and husband Ben of Pataskala, OH; Charla Bennett and husband Larry of Massillon OH; and Timothy Kelley and fiancé Stephanie Hoover of Columbus, OH; six great-grandchildren, Alexander Conrad, Evan Barkowitz, Calvin Wilson, Nadia Wilson, Maggie Ness and Riley Bennett; and one brother, James Kelley of Blowing Rock, NC. A very special thank you to Joni Farrier and Linda Helmick, two very special caregivers who have been a part of our family for over two years. You have been and are a blessing to us. Thank you to Kim Jordan another special caregiver who recently joined our family. Thank you also to Lisa Howell who was here to help at the right time. A very special thank you also to my Fayette Celtic Hospice Family-Cindy Adams, Karen Beck, Robin Calhoun, Brad Hosack, Kris Scheibel, and Taisha Mantenuti. Each of you is a blessing personally and professionally. Friends will be received in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, on Sunday from 2 – 5 PM, and Monday until 10:00 AM, the hour of service, with Pastor Beverly Roscoe officiating. Interment follows in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion, with Military Honors accorded by the Point Marion Veterans Posts.
