Bradley G. Furia

Bradley G. Furia, 65, of Northport, New York, and formerly of Greensboro, Pa., died unexpectedly Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Born in Waynesburg on September 15, 1944, he was a son of Betty Phillips Furia of Greensboro, and the late Angelo “Geno” Furia. A 1962 graduate of Mapletown High School, he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. On May 29, 1965, he married his soul mate, Mary Cormack Furia. Following his discharge from the Army, he was employed as a lineman for the former West Penn Power Company in Brownsville, Pa. He also spent many years working as an electrician at the Volkswagon Plant in New Stanton, Pa. In later years, he worked for Diglio Electric in the Long Island area, after moving to New York in 1993. He also managed a family owned and operated business, F & D Sanitation, located in Greensboro, until the time of his retirement. Brad was an avid outdoor enthusiast and steward of nature. He recently built a home in the mountains that he loved, and was looking forward to spending time there with his family and friends. He greatly enjoyed roasting marshmallows on the fire and feeding the wildlife that surrounded him, especially a small buck named Jerky that would visit him daily for special molasses corn. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Kristen Furia, and grandson, Bradley Geno, both of Hazelton, W.Va.; a sister, Jan Dankovich, of Greensboro; a niece Dr. Megan Dankovich and her husband Dominic Argentieri, and their new baby, Sonya Argentieri, all of Washington, D.C.; and friends Jean Satoski and William Taggard, both of Northport. His wife Mary, father Geno, and nephew Geoffrey M. Dankovich, preceded him in death. Friends will be received in the Richard R. Herod Funeral Home, Point Marion, Pa. on Friday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m., and Saturday, September 4, 2010 from 10 – 11 a.m., the hour of a Blessing Service, with Rev. Fr. Nicholas Argentieri officiating. Interment follows in Greene County Memorial Park, with military rites accorded at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Greene County Humane Society, the local chapter of the ASPCA, World Wildlife Federation, or any organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals and/or nature conservation.
